Most parties have a set price limit. It can vary party to party, but normally settle around $25. If you need help finding a gift, check out our Gift Ideas.
Everyone buys one gift. Make sure to stick to the price limit! Make sure that your gift wrapping is A+. Part of the fun of the game is to make funny or gag gifts looks super expensive and desirable.
To determine the guest order, simply draw numbers from a bowl. The guest with #1 goes first! See Variations below on how to make this a little more fun.
Each guest takes a turn either opening a gift or "grinching" a gift. Grinching is stealing a gift that was previously opened. If a guest is grinched, they may not grinch their gift back. They much select a new unopened gift or grinch another gift. Once the grinched guest has selected a unopened gift or grinched another gift, the game returns to the guest order.
Once a gift has been grinched 3 times, it is considered locked. A locked gift may no longer be grinched.
Set a timer of 3 minutes for grinching of gifts. Once a gift is grinched, the timer would start. At the end of the 3 minutes, grinching will stop and a new gift must be opened. This helps with large groups so the game doesn't last for hours.
Instead of drawing numbers from a bowl, write down phrases from "A Night Before Christmas" or another short christmas story. Start reading the story an when the reader gets to that phrase, it is that guest's turn. Helpful Hint - Have the phrases highlighted incase that guest is enjoying a snack or drink a little too much to pay attention.
